Cyprus Government Spokesperson Nikos Christodoulides announced the bides for the Republic’s third licensing round for offshore exploration.
Christodoulides made the announcement via Twitter.
Shortly after Christodoulides’ announcement, Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis also twitted: “Cyprus EEZ attracts significant interest from Oil & Gas majors during 3rd Licensing Round for offshore exploration.”

Applications for the third licensing round revealed a focus on offshore hydrocarbon exploration rights within blocks 6, 8 and 10.
Last week Christodoulides stated that major energy companies “have shown a strong and growing interest in the third licensing round for offshore exploration in blocks 6, 8 and 10 of Cyprus` Exclusive Economic Zone.”
He told press that the announcement would be made after “the President Nicos Anastasiades and government are briefed on the results.”
Applications were submitted as follows:
For block 6 eni and Total together.
For block 8 Cairn Energy, Delek/Avner and eni.
For block 10 by eni, Total, ExxonMobil, Qatar Petroleum and Statoil.
